CARLOS MONTEMAYOR

In May 2004 tuvela opportunity to interact with Carlos Montemayor, who came to give a presentation at the National Book Fair Final León ( in which even served as press aide ).

My first impression I gave Carlos Montemayor was that it was an arrogant and contemptuous. Crossed a few words with people (including we had at our expense the fair development ) and, when taking his place in the conference table, the first thing he said ( with her cheek resting on his hand , a cascade of boredom and surfeit ) was "well, what want to speak to them. "

not repeat the first thing that came to mind upon seeing their attitude ( least now), but the audience ( a small auditorium, which maybe was the cause their behavior ) went unnoticed their rudeness and asked him to talk about his life.

Hardly said anything about his biography, with the monotony of someone who only wants to fulfill a commission. But when you touch the point of activism for indigenous people, the audience called for deepening it. Then, Carlos Montemayor pedantic disappeared. It was rising slowly, the narrator, the defender human rights, the profound knowledge of the history and causes of the Zapatista uprising.

The communion between the writer and the public was strengthened. Suddenly, at the conclusion of an explanation related to the Zapatistas, the audience applauded ecstatically into believing that the conference was terminated. When the soundman began to read the acknowledgments and Montemayor to get up, one person stood up and said "not welcome to go, we applaud because we liked what he said." Thus, the conference was extended more than necessary and even Montemayor had to postpone a telephone interview to Fernanda Tapia continue.

radically changed my opinion about Carlos Montemayor and even his book "The Dawn and Other Stories" ( I got on that occasion and which has its signature ) I still retain a very special way.

So when a person dies the size of Montemayor really not so heavy loss, as his legacy transcends thousands (or millions ) of strangers that they will endure forever.

( Soon, in http://www.fotograma-net.blogspot.com/ may observe a sequence of photos of that conference as homage ).
